the uses of nature
In this group of works, I was specifically interested in the idea of wilderness. Wild nature holds a special place in American mythology. While one could argue that there are no longer any places that are truly untouched by humanity's collective hands, wild places exert a powerful fascination for many, including myself

I painted these in and near national parks, places where nature is managed and protected for its own sake as well as for human consumption. I spent a lot of time thinking about what draws us to nature; what we as humans want and get from it.
