My paintings navigate the tension between the idea of the natural and the actual landscape. The works draw on an interest in the scientific view of nature as well as the role nature occupies in culture and in the human psyche. I'm interested in excavating the deeper patterns of nature, both visual and functional.

Centered on the subject of humanity’s relations with nature, my work is driven by interests that include community ecology, weeds, fungi, prairies, the forest floor, invasive species, and the marginal landscape. Relationship to place matters a great deal to me.
